Subject: Horn and hard art date and nut bread
Hello!
I remember the automat serving an amazing date and nut bread and cream
cheese sandwich, the recipe for which I cannot reproduce. I looked through
the ones you have posted but, do you know which might be the closest?
Thank you!
Carole
Hi Carole,
Sorry, I searched for Horn & Hardart's date and nut bread recipe, but I had
no success. I could not really recommend a recipe as being close, because I
never tasted the H & H bread.
However, many people also fondly recall the date nut bread/cream cheese
sandwiches at Chock Full O' Nuts. I have a recipe for that here:
1-7-2004
No promises, but that would be the first one I'd try if I were you.

Phaed,
I am once again turning to you for help. I am looking for a copy of Marjorie
Standish's baked bean recipe. She wrote a food column for the Portland Press
Herald in Maine for over 25 years. I have only been able to find a partial
recipe posted on Pintrest. Maybe one of your faithful will be able to share?
Thank you.
Peter
Hello Peter,
Well, this will go into the queue to be posted on my site, but it will be
about a month before it appears.
However, you may not have to wait that long. I found a digitized copy of
Marjorie Standish's book "Cooking Down East: Favorite Maine Recipes" on
Google Books, and the recipe was there. The location is:
Cooking Down East: Favorite Maine Recipes
It opens on "Vegetables", but if you scroll down, the Maine Baked Beans
recipe is there. It's a simple matter to capture it to a *.jpg file using
the snipping tool in windows and then print it out.

Subject: Stouffer's Entree from 1980's/Shaky's Pizza
Hi Phaedrus,
I just found your site (by accident) today while trying to find my Mom's recipe for corn chowder.
And I found one that is very, very close to it, so thank you!
As I browsed through the recipes, I was reminded of an infuriating search that went on for years
to find a recipe for Stouffer's Chicken Stuffed Pasta Shells. It was a frozen dinner entree from
Stouffer's (in the red box) that I used to eat all the time in the 1980's. There were two jumbo
shells stuffed with a diced/shredded chicken mixture and topped with a mornay sauce (I believe it
was mornay, could have been just a white cheese sauce). I have tried to adapt several recipes
similar to it, but none of them are just quite right.
Maybe you, or someone out there, can help me out.
Thanks so much,
Stacey
Hi Stacey,
Well, as usual commercial products such as this are problematic. I’ve never seen an actual commercial
recipe for something like this available online, so a copycat is usually the only option. In this case,
I had no luck locating a copycat.
This recipe might be similar: Pillsbury - Chicken Stuffed Shells with Two Sauces
