Subject: Texas hots
Hi
I wonder if you can find a recipe for Texas hot sauce from Tony’s Texas Hots
on Main Street in Johnson City, NY.
Thank you,
Sandie
Hi Sandie,
Sorry, no luck with this. The only thing that I can find are a few reviews of
the place. I’ll post this on my site. Maybe a reader can help.

Subject: Looking for two recipes from the same place
Hi Uncle Phaedrus!
I'm looking for two recipes, both are from The Fireplace restaurant in Paramus, NJ:
https://thefireplacerestaurant.com/
The first recipe I'd like is the Texas Sauce that they put on their Texas Frank.
The second recipe I'd like is for their half sour pickles.
I did try writing to them but they never wrote back so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!!!
LC
Hello LC,
Sorry, no luck with either of these or with any recipes or copycats from The Fireplace.
It’s very possible that they either purchase the half sour pickles from an outside contractor or else make them at a central commissary.
I have a couple of half sour pickles recipes here: 04-28-08

Subject: recipe for "sex on the beach" ice cream cake
Good evening :-)
I'm looking for a recipe for a "sex on the beach" ice cream cake.
My boyfriend had it somewhere once and says it was the best dessert
he's ever had.
I'd like to recreate it for his birthday this summer, but unfortunately
I can't find any such recipe. Can you help me?
Cheerfully,
Rachel
Hi Rachel,
Could he be confused about the name of this dessert? The only “sex on the beach” recipe that I have ever heard of or that I can find anything about is a cocktail made with vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry juice.
I could not find any ice cream cake recipe with “sex” in its name at all.
However, there is a refrigerated cake recipe called “better than sex cake” that has vanilla pudding poured over it before refrigeration. That’s the closest thing that I can find. See below for recipes for three different kinds.
The recipe might have a different name, but I’d need to know some ingredients in order to determine that. People are not always very consistent with recipe names. I’ll post this on the site in case a reader can help.

Better Than Sex Cake 1
1 pkg. white cake mix with pudding
1 lg. can crushed pineapple
1 c. sugar
1 (4 oz.) pkg. vanilla instant pudding mix
16 oz. whipped topping
Prepare and bake cake using package directions in 9x13 inch cake pan.
Combine pineapple and sugar in saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes stirring
constantly. Pierce holes in hot cake with ice pick. Pour hot pineapple
over cake; cool.
Prepare pudding mix according to package directions. Spread over
cooled cake. Spread with whipped topping. Store in refrigerator for
up to 1 week. May substitute whipped cream for whipped topping.
Yield: 18 servings.
-----------------------------------
Better Than Sex Cake 2
4 eggs
1 box yellow cake mix
1 (3 oz.) box instant vanilla pudding mix
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. oil
1 c. sour cream
1 c. chopped pecans
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 oz. bar grated German chocolate
Mix first 5 ingredients together, about 2 minutes. Add sour cream,
mix well. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Pour into tube or bundt pan. Grease and flour pan well. Bake at
350 degrees for 55 minutes. Serves 12.
------------------------------------
Better Than Sex Cake 3
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 jar caramel, butterscotch or fudge ice cream topping
1 (8 oz.) Cool Whip
1 Heath candy bar, grated
Bake cake as directed on package (9 x 13 inch pan) and let cool.
With a wooden spoon handle, punch holes about one inch apart over
entire cake. Pour whole can of sweet milk into holes. Pour entire
jar of topping over cake. Pour entire container of Cool Whip over
the topping. Spread grated Heath bar over all.

Thank you so much for writing back to me! I confirmed that it is
an ice cream cake called "sex on the beach." Apparently he had in
Southern California when he lived there about 8-10 years ago.
If you find anything, I'd love to know... all my searching has
been fruitless :/
Thanks again :-)
Rachel
Rachel,
There’s just nothing out there with that name except mixed drinks. I’ll post this request on my site, but it will be July before it appears.
The only way that I can think of to pursue this is for you to find out exactly where he had it and then go from there if possible.

Okay, mystery solved.... and you were right about the name! I didn't
want to ruin the surprise, but finally I broke down and asked him.
He insisted that it was a sex on the beach ice cream cake, but then
when I told him it didn't exist, he emailed a friend and confirmed
that it is in fact the "better than sex" regular (non-ice cream) cake.
Thanks again for your response & recipe suggestions--I think I'll be using them!
Rachel
