Aloha Uncle Phaedrus,
I grew up on the Jersey Shore with a family that went to Freedmans every Sunday
after church. This was during the pre- bagel craze after watching Wonderama and
Lenders frozen bagels. It was always hardrolls and salt sticks. Do you by chance
have the recipe for Freedmans salt sticks? I vaguely remember hearing a bakery
in Farmingdale NJ has all the Freedmans recipes.

Hello TJ,
Sorry, I do not have and could not find any recipes at all from Freedman's Bakery. No copycats for the salt sticks, either. Freedman’s Bakery sold the recipes for its corn rye bread and Kneip kaiser rolls to Harvest House Bakery in Howell, NJ, but
I could not find any mention of the fate of their other recipes, including the salt sticks. I did not come across any mention
of a bakery in Farmingdale NJ having them.
There are several recipes for salt sticks on the web, but I've no idea whether any of them would be a good substitute for Freedman's sticks.
I'll post this. Maybe one of my readers can recommend a "tastes-like".
