Subject: Almond Puff cake
Years ago I had a recipe for an almond pastry from one of them
recipe cards that you get every month.
All I can remember is it was cooked on the stove with eggs as a
main ingredient. Then the recipie was divided in half and you
made two separate pastry cakes from it.
Then another almond flavored topping was put on top and baked.
It was very, very flaky and melted in your mouth. It wasn't with
almond paste but just almond extract.
I have been looking for this recipe for years with no luck. If you
can help me find this that would be wonderful.
Thank you.
Hi Jeanette,
Could one of the recipes below be it?
Phaed
Almond Puff Coffee Cake
Ingredients :
1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 c. flour
2 tbsp. water
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 c. water
1 tsp. almond extract
1 c. flour
3 eggs
Confectioners' Sugar Glaze (recipe follows)
Chopped nuts
Preparation :
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cut 1/2 cup butter into 1 cup flour.
Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over mixture; mix with fork. Round
into ball; divide in half. On ungreased baking sheet, pat each half
into a strip, 12 x 3 inches. Strips should be about 3 inches apart.
In medium saucepan, heat 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup water to rolling
boil. Remove from heat and quickly stir in almond extract and 1 cup
flour. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball,
about 1 minute. Remove from heat. Beat in eggs, all at one time,
until smooth. Divide in half; spread each half evenly over strips,
covering completely. Bake about 60 minutes or until topping is
crisp and brown. Cool. Frost with Confectioners' Sugar Glaze and
sprinkle generously with nuts. 10-12 servings.
Confectioners' Sugar Glaze:
Mix 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons butter or margarine,
softened, 1-1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract or 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
and 1-2 tablespoon warm water until smooth.

2 tbsp. water
1/2 c. margarine
1 c. water
1 tsp. almond extract
1 c. flour
3 eggs, well beatenFROSTING:
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 1/2 tbsp. warm water
1 (4 1/2 oz.) pkg. sliced almonds
Preparation :
Form lower crust ingredients into ball. Make 2 strips 12 x 3
inch and place 3 inches apart on baking sheet. Filling - Melt
margarine, add water and bring to rolling boil. Remove and quickly
stir in (all at once) flour and almond extract. Stir until it forms
a ball (1 minute). Remove from heat and add eggs. Stir until
smooth. Divide in half and spread each half over each crust strip.
Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Cool then frost with frosting. Best
served fresh. This recipe goes together fast and results in a

Hello Evelyn,
I sure do. Matter of fact, I've got a bunch of them. Below are several.
Phaed
Butter Roll
Ingredients :
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
Hot water
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Milk (enough to cover rolls)
Preparation :
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. Add enough hot
water from the faucet to make mixture like biscuit dough. Roll
dough out like pie dough. Put butter and sugar on crust. Roll up
and pinch ends. Lay rolls in deep pan. Add vanilla to milk and
pour over rolls. Bake in hot oven until brown (400 degrees).
----------------------------------
Butter Roll
Ingredients :
2 c. self rising flour
1/2 c. water
2/3 c. Crisco shortening
1 stick butter
SAUCE:
4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 stick butter
Preparation :
Mix with fork: Crisco and flour until it resembles coarse meal,
then gradually add water. Mix until dough holds together, and shape
into ball. Roll out on floured surface and cut out saucer size
circles. Pat with butter and roll dough and crimp on ends and set
aside. Mix sauce ingredients in pan and boil for 1 minute. Pour
into oblong cake pan. Drop rolled dough into mixture and cook in
oven at 400 degrees until sauce is thickened and golden brown.
----------------------------------
Butter Roll
Ingredients :
2 1/2 c. self rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
Milk for soft dough
3/4 c. sugar
1 qt. milk
2 tbsp. vanilla
Butter or oleo, softened
1 c. sugar
9 x 13 inch pan
Preparation :
Cut shortening into flour. Mix in milk to make a soft dough.
Roll out on a flour covered board. Roll about 1/2 inch thick.
Cover with softened oleo. Cover with a layer of sugar. Mix 1 quart
milk with 1 cup sugar and vanilla. Sprinkle rolled out dough with a
little of the milk mixture. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut about 1
inch thick and lay in pan. Cover with milk mixture. Bake at 425
degrees until brown. Extra milk can be added if needed.
----------------------------------
OLD FASHION BUTTER ROLL
Ingredients :
1 1/2 c. real butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. milk
2 c. self-rising flour
1 tbsp. all-purpose flour
Preparation :
Mix shortening, milk and self-rising flour. Turn out on floured
board and divide into 6 rolls. Roll each ball to 6 inch circle. In
bowl mix 1/2 cup butter, sugar and cinnamon. Dip about 2
tablespoons on each circle and fold over making a half circle. Seal
edges by pressing with fork. Bake at 400 degrees until browned.
Take rest of butter, 1 cup; add vanilla, 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon
flour and heat until butter melts and pour over baked rolls in pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not overbake or it will
be too dry. The rolls are supposed to be juicy. This is the kind
our grannys use to make.

the icing. I hope this helps...

1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding (dry)
