Subject: Wyatt's Cafeteria recipe
I am looking for the recipe for broccoli-cauliflower salad that was served
at Wyatt's Cafeteria.
Hello Kathleen,
Sorry, I cannot find even a mention of a broccoli - cauliflower salad from
Wyatt's Cafeteria. However, I did find a recipe for broccoli-cauliflower
salad from Furr's Cafeteria, another Texas cafeteria chain. Perhaps it's
similar.
See below.
Phaed
Furr's Cafeteria Broccoli-Cauliflower Salad
2 cups cauliflower florets
2 cups broccoli florets
1/2 cup green olives, chopped
1/2 cup diced cheese, American or cheddar
1/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup tomato, diced
1 cup salad dressing (Miracle Whip)
Directions:
1 Wash cauliflower and remove core.
2 Wash broccoli and cut off stalks.
3 Pat dry with paper towels.
4 Break off cauliflower and broccoli florets into mixing bowl.
5 Add olives, cheese, bell pepper and tomatoes.
6 Mix in 1/4 cup salad dressing, taste, and add remaining salad dressing to taste.
7 Add salt and pepper to taste.

Subject: Please help me locate this recipe
I am looking for a recipe for chile rellenos. It is in a book I no longer have by Samuel and Narcissa Chamberlain
called i think, A Sampler of American Cooking--not sure of the title. it might be a Treasury or something like that.
The sauce that is part of the recipe is the simplest and best sauce have ever had for this dish.
I want to thank you yet again for all the pleasure you have restored to me in the recipes you have helped me re-locate.
Its like finding old friends. I have some herbs growing just to cook some of the things you've helped me find.
A way to continue on with a civilized life in such a diminished world. Don't you think?
I hope you are really enjoying whatever you're cooking these days. I just made a blackberry cobbler with berries I picked
at an abandoned farmstead down the road. Wonderful but what a project. They were very small and hard to clean. But very easy to eat.
There is a grove of hazelnuts right there and that will be my next project. i have a hankering for hazelnut torte mit lots of schlag.
Am I right in thinking you are fortunate enough to be in New Orleans? You do deserve to be.
Stay hungry.
Gloria
Hello Gloria,
I believe that the cookbook is “The Chamberlain Sampler Of American Cooking, In Recipes And Pictures” By Narcisse Chamberlain And
Narcissa G. Chamberlain I do not have that book, and I had no success locating their Chiles rellenos recipe on the web. Sorry.
You can get a copy of that cookbook very easily. I found it for sale on all of the bookstore websites and there are usually copies
for sale on E-Bay as well. You can get a used copy for as little as $0.69 plus shipping at Amazon.com.See: The Chamberlain Sampler Of American Cooking
I will, of course, post your request on my site. Perhaps a reader will send the recipe. If so, I will forward it to you.
I am glad you enjoy the site and find it helpful.
I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast near New Orleans and lived in the Southern U.S. most of my life, but I live in Maine now.
I’m always hungry....

Hello Molly,
I cannot find any mention at all of such a bakery in Belleville, AL. Karl’s German Bakery is in Daleville, AL. They have a website here: Karl's German Bakery
There are no recipes and no copycats available for any of the products sold by Karl’s German Bakery. Sorry.

hi
I am looking for recipes from Voss' bakery in salt lake city.utah. any and all recipes from them would be appreciated.
I am unable to make it to the bakery as I reside too far away . so I would like to try my hand at making their breads and bakery items at home.

Hello Molly,
I cannot find a “Voss’ Bakery” in Salt Lake City. Perhaps you mean “Vosen’s Bakery” – “Vosen’s German Bread Paradise” in Salt Lake City.
They have a website here: Vosen's Bread Paradise
I cannot find any recipes or copycats from Vosen’s, either. Sorry.
Molly, I don’t think you are going to have much success looking for bread recipes from bakeries like these. Karl’s and Vosen’s are commercial bakeries.
They use commercial recipes, commercial ingredients, and commercial equipment to make their breads. This makes it difficult for anyone to create a copycat.
Bakeries usually don’t give out their recipes, and even if they did, the recipes would be big commercial recipes for making large quantities of bread.
I understand that you like the bread from these bakeries and would like to make similar bread at home. While I was searching, I looked for any bread
recipes that said they “tasted like” Karl’s or Vosen’s, but I did not find any. I think that your best approach would be to look for German bread recipes
for home bread-making and try them until you find one that suits you. I will be happy to help you find German bread recipes, but you will need to request
them one type of bread at a time – not just “German Bread” but “German Dark Rye Bread” or whatever, with enough description so that I can locate what you want.
Also indicate whether you want oven recipes or bread machine recipes.
