Caring for an Iron Skillet

I have an old iron skillet and know there is a specific set of rules
for the seasoning and care of iron skillets.

Do you know what they are?

  Thanks.

Hi Sal,

Sure enough:

To season an iron skillet be sure it is completely clean (no rust or crust built up over years of use). Coat completely with olive or vegetable oil both inside and out, including the handle. Place the pan in a hot oven ( 350° F) and "bake" for about an hour. The oil should fill the pores of the iron. After you season the pan oil it with each use and do not wash with soap. If your pan is seasoned right, food should not stick to it. Wash with warm water only and place on stove top on warm burner only til dry, then oil again once dry. If you use soap on a seasoned iron pan you remove the oil and defeat the purpose of seasoning it.

can find one with these ingredients? It was a wedding cake
I had at a friend's wedding in California and want to try to
make one similar for myself. Thanks,Mary

Hello Mary,

I didn't find one that used cocoa. I did, however, find the one below that uses unsweetened chocolate. It does have buttermilk & cointreau.

Phaed

  Cointreau Chocolate Cake

   Ingredients :
   1 c. butter
   1 3/4 c. sugar
   1/2 c. light corn syrup
   1 tsp. vanilla
   4 eggs, beaten well
4 sq. unsweetened chocolate (4 oz.)
   2 3/4 c. cake flour
   3/4 tsp. baking soda
   1/2 tsp. salt
   1/2 tsp. buttermilk
   1/2 c. cointreau

   Preparation :
Cream butter. Add sugar and beat 5 minutes. Add corn syrup and
vanilla; mix well. Beat in eggs and melted chocolate. Mix together
flour, soda, and salt. Add to chocolate mixture alternately with
buttermilk and cointreau. Grease and flour one tube pan or 2 loaf
pans; fill with batter. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10
   minutes.  Pour 1/2 cup cointreau over top and bottom.  Wrap in foil;
hold for 2 days before eating.

  Subject: Chocolate Walnut Coffee Ring

Back in the 70's and early 80's I used to buy a coffee ring at
Mayron's Bakery which have a number of store in and around Hartford,
CT. It probably was a sour cream dough but had a sinfully good
filling of chocolate paste and chopped walnuts and perhaps some
cinnamon. I've never been able to find a similar recipe.
  Could you help? Thanks.

Hello Peter, I could not locate a recipe with that name. However, I did find the below recipes for a chocolate coffee ring made with sour cream and containing walnuts. Are they similar?

from sides of pan. Cool completely, loosen and remove to a cake
   plate. Makes 8-10 servings.
