Subject: baked Macaroni and cheese muffins
Uncle Phaedrus,
I am looking for a baked macaroni and cheese muffin that i had
at the Mt. Vernon resturant in Va. when i was there on Mar.26 2011
for my grandaughter wedding. They were delicious. I have looked
everywhere for a recipe and can not find one.
I am hoping you can help me.
Thank you
Eleanor
Hello Eleanor,
I'm sure you mean the "Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant"? I did not find anything at all
like "macaroni & cheese muffins" on their regular menu at:
Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant Menu
However, on their "Private Lunch" & catering menu, I found a "Passed Appetizer"
listed called "Mini Macaroni & Cheese Tarts". Is that what you mean?
I had no success locating a recipe of a copycat recipe for Mount Vernon Inn's
mini macaroni & cheese tarts appetizer, nor did I have any success locating any
recipe at all for mini macaroni & cheese tarts.
Mount Vernon Inn sells a cookbook of "historical and modern recipes". Maybe it's
in there. You can order it online:
Cookbook
I did find a few recipes for macaroni & cheese muffins (not from The Mount Vernon Inn)
on these sites:
Mini Macaroni & Cheese Muffins
Mac & Cheese Muffins
Macaroni & Cheese Muffins
Macaroni - Cheese Muffins

Subject: Pineapple kiffeleges
My grandmother who is of Austrian descent but married a hungarian made something
like a kiffel but it was filled with a pineapple filling (she never used any
other kind of filling) It was folded in half to form a triangle and had a light
sugar coating on the outside. It was also bigger and had more filling than a
kiffel. They were more like a turnover than a cookie. She called them kiffelges
(not sure of spelling).
Thanks for your help
Susan
Hello Susan,
There does not appear to be a word in any language close to "kiffeleges" or
"kiffelges". Perhaps it was just the way she pronounced "kiffels" or "kiffels"
or "kipfels" as it is also spelled. I did not find any Austrian or Hungarian
recipes for these with pineapple. I did find a Jewish recipe for "hamantaschen"
that is sometimes called "kipfels" and is sometimes filled with pineapple jam:
Pineapple Kipfels or Kolacky or Hamantaschen (with photo)
I also found a recipe for "German Tea Kipfels" that uses candied pineapple:
German Tea Kipfels
German rugelach may be similar and sometime has a pineapple filling:
Rugelach
Other than those, all I can offer you is some pineapple filled cookies recipes:
Pineapple Filled Cookies
Incredible Pineapple Filled Cookies

Subject: Please Help Me Find This Recipe
Hi...
I have lost an old issue of Better Homes and Gardens that contained a recipe
for a salad dressing that was to be used on both fruit and cold cuts.
The picture that went with the recipe showed slices of rolled up turkey and
honey glazed ham, slices of cantelope and possibly honeydew melon, black grapes,
and strawberries beautifully arranged on a bed of curly edged lettuce.
The dressing was a creamy salad dressing that was to be poured over the whole
thing, and went just as well with the meat as it did with the fruit and lettuce.
It was very delicious and it's driving me crazy that I can't find this recipe.
I want to guess that this recipe was from round about June of 1986.
If you can find it for me, I will sing your praises from the rooftops to everyone
I know. Thanks for whatever help you might be able to give me.
Lizbeth
Hello Lizbeth,
Lizbeth, I do not have a collection of Better Homes & Gardens issues, nor is
access to such a collection available on the Internet. Also, there is no way
to search the Internet for a recipe based on a description of the picture that
appeared beside it in a magazine. I have to have things like the name of the
recipe and/or some of the ingredients. I did a cursory search for "Better Homes
and Gardens" + "salad dressing recipe," but, not unexpectedly, I did not find
your recipe. Sorry.
I'll ask a few of my associates and post this on my site. Maybe someone will recognize the recipe.
Best I can do.

Subject: stouffers chicken crepes
About 30 years ago My mother would buy Stouffer's chicken crepes. I remember
the filling was chicken in some creme mixture, probably some vegetables too.
In a separate pouch there was a creme sause with sliced musrooms that you would
put over the crepes.
Thanks,
Meg
Hi Meg,
