I'm going to give you a really good headstart - a photo of the oatmeal box and a typed up copy of what I could read. I have all the ingredients and instructions, I just need the measurements. These are an old favorite of my sister, who's not feeling well. Can you help? Thank you! Tommy
Hi Tommy,
I wish I could have helped.I tried. I searched everywhere for a legible copy of this recipe, with no success. Then I took your photo of the recipe and tried to make it legible with graphics software. Still no success.
I'll post this. Maybe one of my readers has an H-O box or a legible copy of the recipe.

Does anyone have this? It's an H-O oatmeal drop cookies recipe. It was printed on the oatmeal box. Note that it is not the H-O "oatmeal cookies" recipe that's on the web. Among other differences, that recipe calls for cloves and for 2 eggs. This one does not call for cloves and only calls for 1 egg. Tommy has a photo of the box, but the amounts of the ingredients are mostly illegible in the photo.
This is what's legible:
H-O Drop Cookies __ cup shortening __ cup light brown sugar __ egg 1 ___ cup raisins ___ tsp cinnamon ____ cup milk (sour or buttermilk preferred) ___ cup H-O (quick oatmeal) 1 ____ vanilla 1 tsp 2 cups sifted flour ____ baking powder ____ tsp salt OR 2 cups sifted Presto (if used, omit flour, baking powder and salt) Cream shortening, add sugar gradually, then unbeaten egg and mix well. Add raisins and flour that has been sifted with baking powder, salt and cinnamon, alternately with milk. Mix in H-O and vanilla. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet and bake in moderate oven (350°F) 10 to 15 minutes.

Subject: H. O. Drop Cookie Recipe From: Ashleigh Date: 2/8/2026, 7:16 PM To: phaedrus@hungrybrowser.com Hello, I hope this finds you well. I happened upon your website in search of a term while reading my great grandmothers cooking recipes. A recipe called “H. O. Drop cookies” and I wasn’t sure if “H. O.” Meant oats or not. I couldn’t find anything relating to the term until discovering this post: H. O. Drop Cookies I know it’s been a few years, but I wanted to help you fill that recipe in for Tommy if it hasn’t been already. It seems to line up pretty exactly with that incomplete recipe! I’m so happy to have found your site, and I hope this helps. My great grandmother loved cooking and baking almost as much as she loved her family, I’m sure she would’ve loved to help as well. My great grandmother had the recipe listed as follows in her own book: 2/3 c. shortening 3/4 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. raisins 1/4 c. sour milk 2 c. flour 1 egg 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. H. O. (The instructions for the recipe are the exact same as in Tommy’s instructions, up until the end where hers differ. “Drop by spoonfuls on greased pan and bake 10-15 minutes.” So thank you/ Tommy for the knowledge that it should be baked in a moderate oven/350° because I would have had no clue!!) Sincerely, Ashleigh.
