I have not been able to find a waffle that tasted like Hot Shoppes. As a former employee, I used to “OD”’on them as a teenager when I worked there in the 70’s. If you have any idea where i might get “connected”’ to someone I would greatly appreciate it . Bryan
Hello Bryan,
Well, I had no success finding out anything about them on the Internet. There is a Hot Shoppes cookbook that you can get used copies of, but my scanned copy of the index of that book does not list waffles.
Did you ever see the waffle batter being made? Most chain restaurants would use a pre-made batter mix for something like waffles in order to ensure consistency of the dish between locations. They wouldn't make them from scratch in the individual restaurants. There would be a mix that was made at a central commissary or sometimes by a third-party vendor. The mix would be shipped to the local restaurants where it would be mixed with a liquid to make the batter. In this case, no one at the local Hot Shoppes would know the recipe for the mix - only Hot Shoppes management and the people who made the mix would know that. That makes it almost impossible to find the actual recipe, and it does not appear that anyone has created a copycat recipe.
I will post this for reader input.
