Subject: Holiday popcorn recipe From: Laurie Date: 7/30/2022, 5:46 AM To: phaedrus@hungrybrowser.com Trying a search on your site gives me a message that it is not secure, so I am resorting to emailing you to find a lost recipe. This recipe is called Holiday Popcorn. It was in the 1980s that I remember making & eating it. It was tomato powder based (most likely a soup mix) with spices (I'm guessing basil, oregano & maybe onion powder?). We would put the seasoning & popcorn into a paper bag and shake it. It would come out beautifully red and very tasty. If you could find it for me, it would be much appreciated. I will also continue to keep looking on my own. Thank you, Laurie
Hello Laurie,
Of course, the first thing that I did was to go to my site and do a search for "Holiday Popcorn" using the search engine at the top of every page. I got zero results because there is no "Holiday Popcorn" recipe on my site, but neither did I get a message that "this site is not secure". The search worked perfectly well, and I have had no other complaints about it from anyone else. If you get the warning message that you describe, it must be something on your end - on your internet server if not on your own computer. Perhaps something like an anti-malware software.
As you can imagine, a general Google internet search for "Holiday Popcorn" gives dozens of results, most of which are sweet - candy or chocolate coatings for the popcorn. Attempting to narrow the search using terms like "savory" or "spicy" did not result in a recipe that matches your description. Searching for "holiday popcorn" with the qualifiers "tomato", "basil", and "oregano", brought a few results, but none calling for "tomato soup mix" or "tomato powder". I also searched using "savory popcorn" and "spicy popcorn" as recipe names. Still no results.
The only recipe that I can find that calls for "tomato powder" is not named "Holiday Popcorn", but is named "Bloody Mary Popcorn." It is the closest recipe that I can find to your description. See: Bloody Mary Popcorn
There are a lot of spicy/savory popcorn recipes on the internet. See these sites:

I will post this on my site. Perhaps one of my readers knows of the "Holiday Popcorn" recipe.

Here is the recipe for your readers: Holiday Popcorn 1 cup melted butter 1 pkg tomato soup mix 2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp oregano 1 1/2 tsp onion salt 1 tsp garlic salt Shake with popcorn in a paper bag. For those who don't have access to the powdered tomato soup mix, you could try using tomato powder, which I plan to make from tomato skins when I process my tomatoes this fall. Adjust seasonings or add more as desired. Dill could be a tasty addition!
