Try this one or the ones below: Chinese Chews

Phaed

Date Nut Chews

2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. white Karo
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1/3 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. sugar

Break eggs into bowl, beat light. Add sugar and syrup, salt and almond extract. 
Add dates and nuts. Mix well and fold in sifted flour. Pour into greased oblong 
pan (11 x 7 x 1 1/2 works fine). Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. 
They will be light in color. Remove from oven and let get almost cool. 
Cut in 1 1/2 inch squares and roll in the powdered sugar.

Date and Nut Bars

3/4 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 pack sliced dates

 Sift the dry ingredients. Beat the eggs; beat in the sugar gradually. Add the dates 
and nuts. Stir in the dry ingredients. Spread the mixture over a shallow pan lined 
with paper and oiled. Bake in a moderate oven 350 F. for 30 minutes. 
When cool cut in strips.
