Entenmann's Cherry Squares Clone Recipe

 Hi, "Uncle"!

I just bought a big bag of fresh cherries from our local Safeway (I realized after I got home),
that bag cost over 8 dollars! I thought they were on sale because they had so many bags
set up in their produce section)& not having a lot of ideas as to what to do with them,
I searched your site and this one from 2010 looked alright:

 Cherry Squares

1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
4 c. flour
1 c. margarine
2/3 c. milk, scalded
1 tbsp. sugar
2 (15 oz.) cans cherry pie filling

Dissolve yeast in warm water and add sugar. Scald milk and cool. Blend flour and
margarine; similar to making pie crust. Add milk and yeast to flour and roll out half
of dough to fit large cookie sheet. Spread on 2 cans of pie filling. Cover with remainder
of dough, rolled out. Bake at 350 degrees until light brown 15 to 20 minutes. Frost with
powdered sugar icing.

Phaed, I kid you not- this simple looking thing I could not tell the difference between it
and Entenmann's. It even has the lovely shredded/flakey cake to it, I did add powdered
sugar frosting just in little streaks across the top just like the Entenmann's. If anyone
wants a clone, give them this! It's absolutely fantastic.

OK now if you or your readers are interested can I give you a few of my tips for the
kitchen? Some I picked up working on the restaurant service years ago:

End of work shift at night we threw all the kitchen towels/rags in a sink full of hot water,
just a bit of Clorox & laundry detergent to soak all night. They'd be "laundered" by next
morning.

For my own kitchen, another trick I fill one sink up with hot water and just a teeny bit
of Clorox and Dawn, and as we use our utensils & dishes we drop them in, so I can
wash them all at once plus have them a lot easier to clean at the end of the day.

This may not be pretty, but I also like to line my fridge shelves with newsprint, we get
them in the mail in ads all the time. I change them once a week, I just fold them up and
with it all the crumbs and drips. I also line the countertops with clean newspaper when
I bake or prepare things to make cleaning so simple. I don't know why more people don't
do it this way.

Thank you for your site. It's such fun, I often just come to browse the old requests too.
It's interesting and I despise website advertisements, especially the bouncy ones or the
videos that play automatically, and yours doesn't have those. It's like a breath of fresh
air.
