Would like to request the Wine Cake recipe. Sooooo Good!
Thanks,

Hello Rudy,
Well, the actual McKenzie's wine cake recipe is elusive. No success finding it. There is a Facebook page called "I Miss McKenzie's Bakery" at: I Miss McKenzie's Bakery
If you do a search for "wine cakes" on that Facebook site, you'll find a dozen or so requests for the recipe spread over the last several years. Nobody has responded to them with the actual recipe.
"Tastee's" is said to have possession of all of McKenzie's recipes, so you might find wine cakes there that are made with McKenzie's recipe. See: Tastee Restaurant
However, remember that "wine cakes" were originally a French pastry and are a New Orleans tradition. McKenzie's may have made the best ones, but they were not the only vendors of wine cakes. I found a statement online that "In New Orleans you can still buy wine cakes at Dorignac’s Grocery Store.", and they are sold by other shops and bakeries as well.
These are not McKenzie's recipe, but they might be close:
Recipe Secrets
LA Farm and Ranch
If you have ever read the book "A Confederacy of Dunces", which is set in New Orleans and is by a local author, then you know that wine cakes are prominently mentioned in it. These recipes are supposedly based on the wine cakes in that book:
Book Club Cookbook
Metro.us
I have no idea how similar these recipes are to McKenzie's.
I will post this for reader input.
