Hi Vivian,

I count half a dozen restaurants named "Kon-Tiki" on Google before I've even got started looking. Which one? What city?

Hello Vivian,

Yes, I'm writing to you for the third time. I don't understand why you have not replied to any of my emails.

Let me show you why I wanted the location of your Kon-Tiki Restaurant. "Kon-Tiki" or "Kon Tiki" or "Kontiki" is a very popular name for restaurants in honor of the famous papyrus boat, the book by Thor Heyerdahl, and a video of the expedition. Most of them are "tiki" style restaurants with a Polynesian or Asian theme. These are all of the Kon Tiki Restaurants that Google gives me links for:

In the USA:

Kontiki   437 Main St, Greenport, NY 11944
Kontiki 13860 Wellington Trace #21-22, Wellington, FL 33414

Kon-Tiki  Cincinnati, OH
Kon-Tiki  601 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33609
Kon-Tikis in Sheraton Hotels in Montreal, Portland, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Honolulu (Stephen Crane)

Outside the US:

Kon Tiki Radisson Blu Resort, Malta St. Julian's San Giljan, San Giljan, Malta

Kon Tiki  Strada Vladimirescu Tudor 12, Sibiu 550129 Romania
Kontiki Beach Resort Bapor Kibra z/n 1000 Willemstad Curacao

All you sent was Tuna salad. Kon Tiki. How would I ever know whether I had the right recipe from that? Yes, I know that the restaurants outside the US are not likely to be right, and I know that many of the restaurants on the US list are closed. I get a lot of requests for recipes from restaurants that closed years ago. Is it too much to ask that you give me a location for the restaurant where you had this tuna salad or to tell me that it was not from a restaurant at all? It would be a great help in my search for your recipe if I knew that.

I did come across one recipe in an old recipe collection that's named "Tuna Kon-Tiki Salad" which did not mention any restaurant at all. Maybe that's it. I also found another recipe with the same name from a scan of an old newspaper: "The Coast Advertiser", Belmar, New Jersey, 07719, Thursday, August 29, 1968. That recipe is below the first one.

Hello. I do not own a restaurant. I have an old recipe for this salad. I wondered about
its history. Thanks for your message.

Hi Vivian,

No, you misunderstand. When I said "your" Kon-Tiki restaurant, I didn't mean that you owned it.

If you had told me to begin with that you wanted to know the history of "Kon-Tiki Tuna Salad", then you would have saved me a lot of time and effort.

I cannot find any history of the salad except that it was probably named after the famous raft in the book "Kon-Tiki" by Thor Heyerdahl. The salad may have originated at the Scandia Restaurant in Los Angeles California in the 1950s.

Well I do apologize. Your second recipe matches mine from the 60s. It was a winner then and
is a winner now. You have been kind and patient with me. God bless.

All's well that ends well, I suppose. It's a good illustration of the importance of clear communication.
