Subject: Hilltop hamburgers recipe? Hi Susan,
Your request confuses me a bit, twice. First, I cannot find that there was ever a "Hilltop Steakhouse" or a "Hilltop Restaurant" in Omaha. There was a famous restaurant in Omaha named "Hilltop House". Is that what you mean? It was at 4911 Dodge Street in Omaha, and it closed in 1979. There is a photo of the Hilltop House's menu and a long article about the restaurant here: My Omaha Obsession
This brings me to the second confusion, which is that there is no "Hilltop Hamburger" on that menu, nor can I find any mention at all of a "Hilltop Hamburger" or any sort of hamburger sandwich from Hilltop House. What is listed on the menu is a "Grilled Hamburger Steak with Mushroom Sauce." Not a hamburger, but a hamburger steak. Perhaps that's what the recipe was for?
There are a number of recipes on the internet for "hamburger steak with mushroom sauce" and "hamburger steak with mushroom gravy", but they do not mention the Hilltop House, so there is no reason to believe that one of them is what you want. You can find them with Google, or if you request it, I can send you a couple of them. The only mention that I can find of "Hilltop Hamburgers" is a burger with that name from a drive-in in Pennsylvania. No mention of Omaha or Hilltop House.
I will post this for reader input.
