I can remember my mom taking me to the Bakery at the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center for those amazing cookies with the sandy texture. The Date & Nut Cake was served at all our family weddings. It was amazing. I am requesting these for home use as I love to bake. Thank you. Bill
Hello Bill,
I wish that I had these recipes to send to you, but I do not have them.
Bakery recipes are problematic. You almost never see any actual bakery recipes on the web or even in cookbooks. When you do see a recipe from a bakery on the web, it's almost always a copycat recipe that someone has created. The only exception that I can think of is the closed Van de Kamp's Bakery in California. In that instance, a food writer managed to obtain the bakery's recipes and has been converting them one at a time into home versions.
No such luck with Hough Bakeries, though. A former Hough baker, Archie Garner, does have the recipes and the right to use the Hough name, but he has used them to open his own bakery - "Archie's Hough Bakery" at 3365 Richmond Road, Beachwood, OH. See: Archie's Hough Bakery
I believe that the Chocolate Chip Cookies and Date & Nut Cake are among the Hough items that he makes. It's probably unlikely that he would give out any of the Hough recipes, but if you crave those cookies and cake, you can probably get them at his bakery. If you can't get to Archie's, he does ship his items. See his website here: Archie's Hough Bakeries
I have a Hough Bakery specific page here: Hough Bakery Recipes. There are links there to the very few Hough Bakery recipes that I have been able to find, and a list of the ones that I have searched for and have been unable to find either a recipe or a copycat for.
