J.L. Hudson Frosted Jam Twirl

From J.L. Hudson's 1945 Recipe Cards:

	Frosted Jam Twirl
	
3 Tbsp			sugar
1  tsp			salt
1/4 tsp			cinnamon
 3 Tbsp		shortening
 3/4 Cup		milk, scalded
 2 Cakes		compressed yeast
 1 egg			well-beaten
 2-3/4 Cups	sifted flour
	 
 Add sugar, salt and shortening to milk. Cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in
 small amount of milk mixture, add to milk mixture. Add egg. Add flour, 
 mixing well to make a soft dough. Knead on floured board until smooth. 
 Roll out into a 13 x 10 inch rectangle. Brush lightly with melted butter. 
 Sprinkle with mixture of 2 Tablespoons sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
Start rolling at each end (long way of the dough) , rolling as for a jelly roll 
until two rolls meet in the center. Placeon a well-greased baking sheet. 
With scissors, make deep cuts into each roll of dough about 2 inches apart. 
Turn or twist each slice, cut side up. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. 
Glaze with egg white and water. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 35 minutes. 
Spread with thin coating of confectioner's sugar. If desired, fill center area 
with fruit, jam, conserves or marmalade.
