Hi ! I have been trying to toast hotdog buns like at Woolworths lunch counter.
The best I could do is slice the very top and bottom of a regular bun...butter
it and grill it on a hot pan. Any better ideas ? I am 63 and have incredible
fond memories of a hot dog, pumpkin pie with whipping cream with my
grandmother as a break while Christmas shopping downtown.

Hi Julie,

I couldn't find anything about how Woolworth's toasted their hot dog buns, but I found lots of people's fond memories of them. One person said that they thought Woolworth's used some kind of commercial hot dog bun toaster, but I don't know if that is so. I don't recall ever having a hot dog at Woolworth's, just chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches and maybe a hamburger.

I have a partial Woolworth's kitchen manual, but it has neither hot dogs or pumpkin pie in it.

I'll post this for reader input.
