Hi Uncle Phaed,

There is a restaurant chain called Wood Ranch, I think they are mostly
in California and specialize in barbecue.  Anyway, I would love the
recipes for their tri-tip soup and also their smashed sweet potatoes.
The tri-tip soup is my favorite, a very beefy broth with meat, mushrooms,
potatoes and carrots in it.  You have helped me a lot over the years, so
my fingers are crossed here!  Thank you.

 Hi Michelle,

There are no recipes available for these dishes from Wood Ranch itself or from former employees, as far as I can tell. However, people have attempted to duplicate these dishes and have created "copycats."

One person's attempt to create a copycat for the tri-trip soup  is on this blog:  Tri-Trip Soup Story

On a message board, I found the below copycat recipe for the mashed sweet potatoes.

Phaed

Wood Ranch Sweet Mashed Potatoes

3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup cream cheese
1 banana, sliced
1 orange, zested and juiced
1 cup chicken stock
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Salt and pepper

Directions:
Boil potatoes until tender, drain and reserve. Return the pot to the
stove top over medium heat. Add butter and bananas to the pot. Cook
bananas 5 minutes and add the juice of 1 orange to the pot, reserve
the zest. Allow the juice to cook out, 1 minute. Add potatoes to the
pot and the stock and sugar. Mash potatoes, banana, stock and sugar
together until well combined. Season with nutmeg, salt, pepper and
orange zest, to your taste. Mash to combine spices and serve.
