Hello Carole,
I searched for this recipe several years ago, in 2009, with no success. I had no success today, as well. I found multiple mentions of Lum's roast beef, but they were just nostalgia, not helpful in finding a recipe. The closest that I have ever come to locating this recipe are a couple of items that I found today in blog posts.
The first one is an item in the "Ocala Star Banner" newspaper about an upstate New York favorite called "Beef on a Weck."
The item, at: Ocala StarBanner says this about "Beef on a Weck": "It's sliced roast beef on a special bun called a Kummelweck - essentially a Kaiser roll with pretzel salt and caraway seeds. It's exactly like the old Lum's roast beef sandwich, only different." (I don't know the explanation for that "only different.")
I do have a recipe for "Beef on a Weck," and for the "kummelweck" rolls themselves here: 6-6-2005
The second item is from a blog post at: Blogspot To wit: "We have the hotdogs steamed in beer recipe as well as the great roast beef rub and our famous Key Lime Pie recipe that we used at LUMS."
The blog post is 15 years old, so it may be a dead end, but the poster claims to have the Lum's recipe for their roast beef rub, so it would be worth a try to write to the email address given in that post.
They aren't much, Carole, but they're all that I can find.
I have a Lum's-specific page here: Lum's
I'll post this for reader input.
