Hello - been looking for the recipe for a tomato-based product sold
in small cans in stores in the 1950’s called “Sauce Arturo” - my mom
used to mix it w/leftover cooked un-seasoned spaghetti & bake it with
pats of butter on top - it got crunchy on the edges & tasted fab to my
childhood palate !

Thanks -

Hello S.C.,

No problem with this.

Red Wing began production of Sauce Arturo in 1912. The sauce changed hands a couple of times and ended up with Conagra. Conagra discontinued the sauce in 2014 and sold the rights to Walton & Post of Miami, Florida in 2015. Happily, Walton and Post still make it. However, it does not have wide distribution, so it may be quite difficult to find in stores, depending on your location. Amazon has it, and you can order it from them: Sauce Arturo at Amazon

Also, while doing my bit of research on the product, I found a copycat recipe. See below and here: Homemade Sauce Arturo

Homemade Sauce Arturo Gourmet Sauce

1 cup/227 grams) 1/4 cup finely chopped mushrooms
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup finely diced red bell pepper
2 Tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pinch paprika
1 pinch nutmeg
1 pinch onion powder

Mix all the ingredients and simmer until bubbling.
